The Korean Association for Laboratory Animal Science (KALAS) was established on 1985 in order to discuss the knowledge of the experiment, and promote the science and technology in laboratory animal sciences.

From about mid-1980s, experimental animal sciences were introduced in Korea. Accordingly, researchers and cooperatives have been felt for the need on the exchange and cooperation. This led to the establishment of The KALAS by Chang-Hyung Lim (First President) and Yong-Soon Lee (Secretary General) on May 1, 1985. In present, KALAS has about 1,700 members, 55 affiliates and 105 organization members.
